Orange Bowl fans boost South Florida’s economy
Clemson Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners fans are opening their wallets in South Florida.
The masses traveling here for the Capital One Orange Bowl on Thursday mean a big economic boost for the area — from restaurants and attractions to hotels.
The contribution starts at the Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, team headquarters for Clemson, and Trump National Doral, headquarters for Oklahoma.
The 998-room Diplomat has hosted Orange Bowl teams since 2002, and this year is looking just as busy as it did in December 2014, when the Diplomat hosted Georgia Tech, General Manager Ed Walls said.
Last year, the resort sold about 250 rooms each night over five nights due to the Orange Bowl.
“It’s a nice chunk of our [end of year] business,” said Walls, noting that the hotel is sold out. “[The Orange Bowl] is a great kick-off to our busy season, and it’s fun.”
