Thousands turn out for Winterfest Parade

Thousands turn out for Winterfest Parade

Donning matching blinking-light necklaces and reindeer antlers, the Lopez family sat waiting in anticipation for the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade to begin. It was the family’s first time, and they weren’t sure what to expect.

“We got a great spot,” said Maggie Lopez, 39, of Miami. She, along with her husband, Edgar, kids Mia and Eric, cousin Anabelle Tuchman and sister-in-law Michelle were seated along the New River, close to where the parade began.

“It’s great to sit and laugh,” Michelle Lopez said. “I love to see the kids light up when they see the boats go by.”

The parade featured more than 100 vessels all lit up for the holidays. The parade route began at the New River in Fort Lauderdale, and ended 12 miles away in Pompano beach.
