Cruises from Port Everglades
Port Everglades Inlet is a very busy place any time of year. A large number of the Caribbean island cruises start in this port. The port expects well over 3 million cruise passengers this fall and winter season.
The cruise industry is a key economic engine in Broward County and Dade County too. The jobs associated with the operations of this port help power our local economy providing us with many full time jobs.
Over the past 10 years, the number of multi-day cruises has surged over 125% as the Caribbean cruise continues to be extremely popular with people who live in cold climates. The two largest ships in the world, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, are permanently berthed here. Â And, as of November 21, 2013, the 4,180 passenger Anthem of the Seas, which is berthed in Southampton in Britain in the summer, Â will sail from our Port Everglades in the winter.
The outlook is very good as bigger ships are being built which accommodate many more people. On any week-end, a drive over the E. Clay Shaw bridge over the Intracoastal will allow you to see huge ships in port bringing the cruisers to our shopping areas and the ship crews into our grocery stores for restocking.
This is a win win for us! Great views for local residents plus money in the pockets of local businessmen.
